I Spy Inspired Nuggets of inspiration for mothers of young children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy

When I graduated from chiropractic college in 2015, I knew I would see patients with differing types of medical conditions walk through my door. As a new doctor, I was eager to share my knowledge of the spine and nervous system and introduce patients to the health benefits of chiropractic care.

In 2017, I gave birth to my fourth child, a sweet little girl who came into the world at twenty-nine weeks. Becoming a mother is an incredible gift; it’s life-changing. However, becoming a mother of a child with cerebral palsy (CP) has forced me to grow in ways I never expected, which is also a gift. I experienced challenges both personally and professionally. Although there have been a lot of growing pains, I thank God for the growth.

As a mother of a child with CP, the journey has been full of joy, setbacks and challenges.

I found helpful resources along the way; however, I had no one in my immediate circle who could relate to what my daughter and our family were experiencing. I have written this guide for mothers of young children with mild spastic CP, because mothers are responsible for childbearing and most often are the primary caretakers. However, parents of children with different types of CP and other special needs may also find it helpful.

I hope these nuggets of inspiration provide you with good information, a sense of encouragement, and some tools to help you on this amazing journey of raising a child with spastic CP.
